Appeals / Reviews of Court Cases

We advise and represent clients in appeals against conviction or sentence in both the Crown Court and the Criminal Court of Appeal. Appeal work requires focused review of the original proceedings, clear advice on prospects and careful preparation of any application for leave to appeal.

Funding

If we represented you in the lower court:

We will review the case, advise on the merits and confirm whether we can continue to act under legal aid or private funding.

If another firm represented you:

We do not usually take on legal aid appeals where another firm acted previously, as the funding available does not reflect the work required. We can act privately.

What We Provide (Private Funding)

  • Full review of case papers and transcripts
  • Clear written advice on the merits of an appeal
  • Preparation of applications for leave to appeal
  • Instruction of specialist appellate counsel where required
  • Representation at the appeal hearing

Second Opinions

We can provide an independent second opinion if you have already received advice elsewhere and want clarity on whether an appeal is realistically worth pursuing.
