At The Police Station

4. Youths at the Police Station

Young people are particularly vulnerable in police custody. Decisions made at this stage can shape the entire case.

We provide immediate, specialist support when a young person is arrested or invited for interview. Our work includes:

Immediate Specialist Support

  • Reviewing police disclosure
  • Advising on whether to answer questions, give a prepared statement or remain silent
  • Identifying safeguarding concerns or potential exploitation
  • Challenging unlawful detention or inappropriate questioning
  • Making representations on bail, diversion or further enquiries
  • Supporting parents and carers throughout the process

If another solicitor or duty representative has already attended, we can review the advice given and take over representation where it is in the young person’s best interests.

We ensure young people are treated fairly, lawfully and with the care they are entitled to.
