Young People and Children at Court

Young People and Children at Court

Experienced, specialist advocacy for young people and children facing court proceedings

Youth Court proceedings require a different approach from adult cases. The focus is on welfare, rehabilitation and understanding the young person’s needs. We provide specialist representation at every stage, including:

  • First appearances
  • Bail hearings
  • Case management Hearings
  • Guilty pleas
  • Trials
  • Sentencing

Legal aid is usually available for Youth Court cases, and we will assess eligibility and make the application.

We ensure the young person can participate effectively in their case. Where communication or learning difficulties are identified, we can arrange intermediary assessments in order to seek appropriate adjustments from the court.

We are experienced in raising section 45 Modern Slavery Act defences, challenging weak evidence and making representations to discontinue proceedings where the public interest is not met.

Our advocacy is calm, clear and focused on achieving the best possible outcome while supporting the young person and their family throughout the process.
