Young people involved in the criminal justice system need more than legal advice — they need understanding, protection and a representative who recognises the unique pressures they face. We provide specialist youth representation for children and young people at every stage of the process, from police investigation to Youth Court proceedings.
Our approach is child centred, trauma informed and focused on safeguarding. We take the time to understand the young person’s background, vulnerabilities, communication needs and personal circumstances. Many young people involved in the justice system have experienced exploitation, peer pressure, neurodiversity, learning difficulties or unmet emotional needs. These factors must be identified early and properly presented.
We work closely with parents, carers, schools, social workers, Youth Justice Teams and other professionals to ensure the young person receives the right support.
Where appropriate, we arrange specialist assessments and reports to ensure the young person’s needs are properly understood and presented.
We are experienced in raising special defences, including those under section 45 of the Modern Slavery Act, where a young person may have been compelled to offend due to exploitation.
Our priority is always to protect the young person’s rights, secure the best possible outcome and ensure their voice is heard throughout the process.
